Using the GC-MS technique, researchers from the Department of Chemistry at Van Lang University (Vietnam) identified different active substances present in garlic essential oil.
The study demonstrates that up to 17 organosulfur compounds can strongly interact with the amino acids of the ACE2 protein and PDB6LU7, the main protease of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. The strongest antiviral activity was presented by allyl disulfide and allyl trisulfide, main sulfur compounds present in garlic essential oil (51.3%). The results suggest that garlic essential oil can contribute to prevent the invasion of the coronavirus in the human body.
